Zeigen. An Audio Tour through Berlin by Karin Sander.Dec. 5, 2009 – Jan. 10, 2010. Opening: Dec. 4, 2009Zeigen.An Audio Tour through Berlin by Karin Sander addresses the near incalculable number of artists now living in Berlin. On Sander’s invitation, over 400 artists based in the city translate one of their own works into an acoustic piece, offering an experience of the original. Accessing the works via an audio guide, visitors gain a level of perception which leads from the familiar visual approach to artworks towards an auditory, imaginative experience, offering scope for different mental visualizations.

In the extensive exhibition Zeigen. An Audio Tour through Berlin, conceptual artist Karin Sander brings together works by over 400 Berlin-based artists at Temporäre Kunsthalle Berlin, offering an unusual insight into current artistic production in the city. The project surprises the visitor with a seemingly empty exhibition space. On the Kunsthalle’s white walls—where one would usually find works and descriptive labels—the names of the invited artists are all there is to see. The works themselves remain invisible—at first glance. For Zeigen. An Audio Tour through Berlin Karin Sander invited fellow artists to translate their own work into an acoustic piece. The very different realizations—performed, sung, spoken, recited—can be accessed individually via an audio guide. Listening on headphones, visitors are offered a new level of perception which leads from the familiar visual approach to artworks towards an auditory, imaginative experience, offering scope for different mental visualizations.

“What you will see is a poetic installation where people wearing headphones stand in front of white walls developing mental images of art that isn’t visible - which is not to say that it isn’t there.” Harald Welzer
